  • Notes
    • Story shared by nephew, Richard DeVaux: He was a giant of a man and strong but gentle. His sister Mary had a baby out of wedlock and gave it to a jewish couple to raise. Ed found out that they were abusing the baby and went to the house, broke down the door, took the baby from them and brought it home. He and Hazel adopted the baby and they raised it. His nickname was "Jug" and when the big strike was on no one crossed the picket lines as they would be beaten by the pickets, but Ed did, he said his family had to eat.

He's found in the 1920 census in Canton, Stark County, OH: DeVAUX, William H. (45); wife Alice (44); son Orrin J. (14); son-in-law Edward F. BAUM (29); daughter Hazel D. BAUM (21); granddaughters Hazel (2 10/12) and Mary (6/12). Everyone in the household was born in Ohio. William worked in a coal yard; Edward for a railroad.

He's found in the 1930 census in Canton, Stark County, OH: BAUM, Edward (38); wife Hazel (31); daughters Hazel B. (13); Mary V. (10); mother-in-law Alice DeVAUX (59; married); brother-in-law George DeVAUX (35; divorced); niece Florence DeVAUX (13). Everyone in the household was born in Ohio.
