Mortice was a farmer; Franklin and Martin farm laborers. Mortice and Johannah were born in France; while all the children were born in Ohio. He's found in the 1880 census in Nimishillen, Stark County, OH: GULLING, Maurice (55); wife Johanna (51); children Therese (26); Martin (23); Louise (20); Emma (19); Mary (18); Edward (16); Jacob (15); Charles (13); Adam (11); William (9). Maurice and Johnanna were born in "Alsas," while the children were all born in Ohio. Maurice was a farmer and Therese, Martin and Edward worked on the farm. Obituary published in the Louisville Herald on 11/20/1902 (p. 4): Moritz Gulling, for many years a resident of Maximo, died Monday morning, at the home of his son, Edward Gulling, of Maximo, at the age of eighty years, from the infirmities of old age. Mr. Gulling was a native of Germany, but came to American when yet a young man. His wife died a few years ago, since which time he made his home with his children, which were fourteen in number, three having predeceased their parents to the great beyond. The surviving ones are Mrs. Joseph Menegay, of Missouri; Mrs. J.P. Monnot, of Canton; Miss Theresa, Frank, Martin, Edward and William Gulling, of Maximo; Charles and Adam Gulling, of Barryville, and Mrs. Jacob Tournoux and Mrs. Victor Joliat, of Louisville. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Catholic church, of Maximo, Wednesday morning, and many relatives and friends of the deceased were in attendance. Rev. Father Gardner officiated at the services. The remains were interred in the cemetery adjoining the church.
