- Obituary from the Morning Herald, Uniontown, Wednesday, 8/15/1934, front page: James R. Wood Dies at Home. James Richard Wood, better known as "Dick," died at his home Tuesday, 11:15 p.m., of a complication of diseases. He had been in poor health for the past two years but bedfast only ten days. Born in Uniontown, September 1, 1863, a son of the late Everhart and Elizabeth Wood, he had been a life-long resident of this city. A painter by profession, he served for 15 years as constable of the First ward. Surviving are his widow, Mary Elizabeth Wood and the following children: O.R. Wood of Detroit; Mrs. Percy Miller, Mrs. A. F. Cope, Mrs. Dewey Trump, Uniontown, and Mrs. J. J. Jack of Sharon. Five grandchildren also survive as do three sisters: Mrs. Walter Springer, Uniontown; Mrs. Carrie Zane and Miss Lizzie Wood, both of Sious City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by one son Walter and a daughter, Helen Scamahorn. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. "Dick" Wood, for many years constable of the First Ward, Uniontown, will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon in the family residence. Rev. William H. McKinney, pastor of the Central Christian church will officiate assisted by Rev. A. J. Allen, pastor of the Second Methodist Protestant church. Burial in Oak Grove cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: L. T. Hayden, Harry McIntyre, Walter Brownfield, William Dutton, Frank R. Foster and Charles Messmore.
