- Born at home place; delivered by Dr. Thomas. Obituary published in the Knoxville News on January 19, 2009: TOWNSEND, JANICE KING - 82, passed peacefully into the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father while at her home on January 17, 2009. She was born on August 23, 1926, in Sevierville, TN, the oldest daughter of Brad and Blanche King. Janice was a loving mother, proud mamaw, and caring sister who loved life, laughter, and especially her family. A devoted Christian, she appreciated her many special friends as a member of Meridian Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her dear husband of 44 years, John Dale Townsend; brothers, Arthur, J. P., Billy, and James King; and sister, Charlotte Breeden. Survived by her only child, daughter, Becky Elmore and husband Michael; granddaughters, Tiffani Sands and husband, Wes, Heather Elmore, and Stephanie Elmore; sisters, Eva Seagle and husband Clarence, Eugenia Watson and husband James, Rue Proffitt and husband Jim; sisters-in-laws, Margie King, Maudelle Townsend, and Kay Townsend; cherished friends, the families of Betty and Benny Elmore, Brenda Geren, and Susan and Charles Hannah; and many special nieces, nephews, and neighbors. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Donna and the staff of Amedisys Hospice for their compassionate and loving care. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Meridian Baptist Church. Funeral services will be 7:00 P.M. Tuesday January 20, 2009 at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Pastor Dana L. Fachman officiating. Family and friends will meet at the Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at 9:15 A.M. Wednesday January 21, 2009 for graveside services at 9:30 A.M. where Janice will be laid to rest with her military veteran husband. The family will receive friends 5-7:00 P.M. Tuesday January 20, 2009 at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.
