  • Notes
    • Paul E. Whaley, age 73, of Pigeon Forge, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Paul, a descendant of the Greenbrier Whaleys, was born and lived his life in Sevier County. He was a businessman and for many years owned Smokies Shopping Center, where tourists and locals alike could find about anything they needed. Paul enjoyed traveling with many different friends to beautiful places for golfing and fishing. He loved all animals and wildlife and made certain that nothing anywhere near him ever went hungry. Paul's quick wit was noted by all who were around him. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lura Whaley; four brothers; and five sisters. Paul is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nannie Miller Whaley; daughter, Kathy Whaley of Denison, TX; brother-in-law, J.D. "Harvey" Miller; sisters-in-law, Jama Whaley, Mildred Huskey, and Wilma Randles, all of Sevierville; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to his nephew, Jerry Whaley; niece, Linda Whaley Wear; and special friends, Kathy Catlett, Sue Duncan, Glenda Catlett, Joan Thurman, Kay Trent, Carolyn Watson, Carolyn McMahan; and many others who provided care and support for Paul and Nan over the past few months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sevier County Humane Society, 959 Gnatty Branch Rd. Sevierville, TN 37876. The family will receive friends 12-1 PM Saturday, October 25th, with the memorial service to follow at 1 PM in Atchley's Smoky Mountain Chapel, 220 Emert Street, Pigeon Forge with Dr. David Ayers officiating.
