He's found in the 1880 census in Sandusky, Erie County, OH: LEIS, Paul (40); wife Mary (35); children Emma (12); Rosey (9); Catherine (?; 5); Fred (2). Paul's occupation is unreadable. He was born in Bavaria; Mary in Baden and all the children in Ohio. Obituary published in the Bellevue Gazette on 9/2/1926 (p. 3, Col. 2): SANDUSKY MAN, WHO HAS RELATIVES HERE, DIED WEDNESDAY NIGHT Numerous relatives in the vicinity of Bellevue were grieved today to learn of the death of Paul Leis, 86, pioneer resident of Sandusky, which occurred las night at his residence there, following an illness of three months. Surviving him are his widow, three daughters, Mrs. Amelia Muehlfeld and Mrs. Edward Anton both of Sandusky and Mrs. Rose Frantz of Cleveland; one son, Fred P. Leis of Sandusky, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a wide circle of acquaintances. Mr. Leis was a shoe merchant in Sandusky for a great many years. He was a faithful member of St. Mary's church. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 o'clock Saturday morning at the residence and at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's church, the Rev. W.C. Zierolf officiating. Interment will be made in St. Mary's cemetery.
